The Labor Day Sand Sculpture Contest at nearby Ocean Isle Beach, NC was held Saturday, Sept. 1st behind the Ocean Isle Beach Community Center, at 44 E. First St.
The contest was sponsored by the Ocean Isle Property Owners Association and the Museum of Coastal Carolina. This years winners designed “Beach Bliss” integrating the Ocean Isle Bridge in their design!
The winning team included Marshall Chipley, Kristin Chipley, Wendi Fields Norris, Roy Chipley and Cole Norris. Trophies and prizes awarded in all divisions for the contest.
In the childrens events Ross Burgess won first prize. He sculpted a mother turtle laying her eggs. Ross is 12 years old and from Ocean Isle Beach.
Sculptures could be of anything and contestants could use natural materials found on the beach. Sculptors brought their own tools, but sculpting started promptly at 11a.m and the final judging took place at 1:30 p.m.
Sculptures were judged on originality, quality of work and group fun.
