Kick off the summer season, enjoy fun family time and make memories while learning about coastal North Carolina’s unique environment, wildlife, and history. The Museum of Coastal Carolina has scheduled Family Programs for visitors of all ages from Memorial Day through June:
- Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:00 am – Touch Tank Feeding: With staff and trained volunteer assistance, gently touch sea stars, urchins, anemones, conchs, horseshoe crabs, and hermit crabs; watch trained volunteers feed the animals; and learn more about the sea creatures that call the Museum home.
- Mondays and Fridays at 1:00 pm – Science in 3D – Mars: Take advantage of the Museum’s virtual reality mobile classroom, strap on a virtual reality headset, and explore Mars in 3D! Visit areas that inspire curiosity including icy polar regions and the Mariner Valley, a vast canyon system that runs along the Martian equator. Interested in learning more about Mars? Check out the Mars: The Ultimate Journey dome theater show Mondays – Saturdays at 12:00 pm at the Ingram Planetarium, the Museum’s sister facility in Sunset Beach.
- Tuesdays at 11:00 am – Sea Tales: Listen to stories starring animals or exhibits displayed at the Museum and complete interactive crafts or science activities based on each story:

June 18 – If My Family Lived in the Ocean by Devyn G. Goddard – A little girl with a wild imagination explores what her life would look like if she and her family lived in the ocean. She decides a warm body of water would be best, and she pictures her mom, dad, brother, and sister as creatures in the sea inhabiting a coral reef. Visitors will make fun fish family portraits following this tale.
Tagalong Turtle by Donna Ferguson – Tagalong Turtle has one goal – to reach the ocean. What adventures will she have on her journey? Discover loggerhead sea turtle facts after reading Tagalong Turtle then make your own clay sea turtle!
The Museum of Coastal Carolina is located at 21 East Second Street in Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
Admission is free for members. Non-member all-day admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (62+), $8 for children (3-12), and free for age 2 and under.
