Dome Theater Shows:
Every Thursday through Saturday, explore remote areas, journey to the farthest reaches of space, or discover the stars you’ll see in your own backyard in our immersive theater – doors open at 10:30 am:
11:00 am – Dinosaur: Passage to Pangaea – When two children embark on a Geology Field Trip, they are thrown into a fantastic voyage where they witness incredible geological wonders and learn the mysterious process that shaped our present-day continents. From roaming the untamed prehistoric wilds to journeying to the center of the Earth, Dinosaur: Passage to Pangaea is the perfect educational look at the tectonic forces that forged our world.
12:00 pm – Audio Universe: Tour of the Solar System – Unlike traditional planetarium shows, the soundtrack takes the lead role in this film. All of the objects in space are represented with rich sounds as well as with incredible visuals. The audience can listen to the stars appear and hear the planets orbit around their heads. Audio Universe: Tour of the Solar System is an immersive experience that can be enjoyed irrespective of level of vision.
1:00 pm – Distant Worlds — Alien Life? – Distant Worlds — Alien Life? is a beautiful planetarium film exploring one of the most enduring questions of humankind — are we alone? For millennia our ancestors watched the stars, questioning the origin and nature of what they saw. Still today we ask these questions, knowing that the Universe is a vast place filled with billions and billions of stars and planets — but yet, Earth is the only planet we know for sure to be inhabited.
2:00 pm – Wayfinders – This live-action fulldome program puts you on the deck of the voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa as you explore traditional Polynesian navigation. Learn how to read the stars and interpret the winds and waves to navigate without modern instruments. The film tells the story of the Polynesian Voyaging Society and the recovery of the nearly lost art and science of traditional, non-instrument navigation in Hawaii. This film was produced in Hawaii by Bishop Museum and 1001 Stories in collaboration with the Polynesian Voyaging Society.
3:00 pm – The Sky Tonight! – Tour the planets, constellations, and other celestial events happening in the night sky above our community. Then, next time you walk along the beach on a clear night, you’ll be able to identify the celestial sights you see.
