Marine mammals and their preservation are the focus of the Museum of Coastal Carolina’s World Ocean Day Celebration on June 6 (officially celebrated on June 8.)
Oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface so the world celebrates them annually to connect the global ocean community, inspire curiosity about oceans, and educate the public about the importance of protecting oceans and its inhabitants. You can join this worldwide celebration with a full day of family-friendly fun at the Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 6.
Ocean-focused activities will be available all day in every gallery:
- Make whale tail hats; learn what baleen is and how it works
- Explore the difference between river and sea otters
- Participate in a recycling and beach cleanup activity
- Sort through a dolphin’s “stomach” and see the effects of marine debris
- Participate in a dolphin fin photo activity and make an ocean protector badge
