Museum Schedule and Programs:
Just because it may be a little too cold to head to the beach some days doesn’t mean there’s not a lot going on at the Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium.
The Museum of Coastal Carolina will be open from 10-3 on Fridays and Saturdays beginning January 8.
Jan. 8 and 22 — 10:30 — Puppet Plays for Preschoolers
Jan. 15 and 29 – 10:30 — Animal Adventures for Preschoolers
These interactive programs feature original puppet skits and animal stories especially for preschoolers. On Jan. 29, the program will be joined by therapy dogs from Canine Angels.
Fridays – 11:00 – Touch Tank Feeding — Join museum docents as they feed the live animals in the museum’s touch tank. Learn more about the habitats and dietary requirements of some of the marine animals found off our coast.
Jan. 9 – 11:00 – Journey of the North Atlantic Right Whale – Education Coordinator Maria Knapik discusses one of the world’s most endangered whales. She will show a brief video, talk about some of the characteristics of these amazing animal, and invite kids to make a whale-related craft.
Jan. 12 – 6 pm – Archeology of Brunswick Town Fort Anderson presented by Jim McKee – After a hiatus of nearly 40 years, archeology is once again being regularly conducted at the site. This program will describe what has been done and what is planned for the future. See some original items that are not yet on public display. Jim McKee is Site Manager at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site.
Jan. 16 – 11:00 – Shake, Rattle, and Roll! – Derrillyn Harbeston presents an engaging program for kids featuring demonstrations of historic and modern-day instruments. Kids will make shakers using a variety of materials. All ages are welcome. Harbeston has been presenting music and history programs for 20 years and is a museum volunteer.
Jan. 23—11:00 – Gem Mining: Treasures from the Earth – Michael Abushakra guides kids through a simulated gem mining experience and talks to them about turning rough gemstones into custom jewelry. Abushakra is the owner of Brynn Elizabeth Jewelers in Ocean Isle Beach.
Jan. 30 – 11:00 – Space Racers– This series of animated educational movies introduces preschoolers to concepts about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Space Racers recently won the 2015 Cynopsis Kids !magination Award for the Best New Preschool Series.
Feb. 2 – 6 pm — The First Ladies of Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach – Moderator Pamela Koontz will discuss the history of these two coastal towns with distinguished panelists Rae Sloane Cox, Dinah Gore, and Virginia Williamson.

Jan. 16 – 7 pm – Medical Radioactivity: A Personal Encounter presented by Fred Myers – Fred Myers, Planetarium Assistant, talks about his own experience of being injected with a radioactive element as part of his treatment for cancer.
Feb. 5 – Stars at Sunset presented by Will Snyder – Will Snyder, Manager, Ingram Planetarium, showcases the stars, constellations, and other celestial events visible in the February night sky.
