This holiday season, enjoy stories about Santa Claws and a Pirate’s 12 Days of Christmas, part of the Museum of Coastal Carolina’s popular Sea Tales program. Young guests can also become Water Warrior Climate Action Heroes with fun science activities and crafts.
Here’s a complete breakdown of what’s on the schedule:
Thursdays at 11:00 am – Sea Tales: Listen to stories starring animals or exhibits displayed at the Museum and complete interactive crafts or science activities based on each story:
- Dec. 5 – The Not Very Merry Merry Pout Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen – Will Mr. Fish find perfect gifts for everyone on his list? Will he finish his shopping in time? Swim along with The Pout-Pout Fish on his holiday shopping quest. He might just discover that the best gifts of all come straight from the heart. We will read about this miserly fish and make a fish ornament.
- Dec 12 – Pirate 12 Days of Christmas by Philip Yates – A brave cabin boy receives marvelously mysterious gifts for each of the 12 days he is left alone to guard the pirate ship: 12 cannons blastin’, 9 mermaids singin’, 6 Jolly Rogers, and so on—but who are they from? Join us for this silly tale and make a pirate flag ornament.
- Dec 19 – Santa Claws: The Christmas Crab by Priscilla Cummings – Travel beneath the Chesapeake Bay, where Spud, a feisty young blue crab, hates to nap. Waking his underwater friends, Spud launches a rollicking Christmas Eve party that is interrupted by an unexpected traveler in need of Spud’s help. Find out what happens in this crazy holiday tale and make a fun Santa craft.
- Dec 26 – Gingerbread Pirates by Kristin Kladstrup – It’s Christmas Eve, and Jim and his mother have left pirate gingerbread men for Santa. Jim’s favorite is Captain Cookie, who carries a gingerbread cutlass and has a toothpick peg leg. Jim keeps him close by his bed. But late that night, when Jim is fast asleep, Captain Cookie step-taps away on a daring adventure to find his pirate crew and rescue them from that mysterious character he’s heard about: a cannibal named Santa Claus. Find out what happens to this swashbuckling crew and make your own paper gingerbread pirate.
