Join us for the 8th Annual Paws-Ability 8th Annual Bicycle Poker Run.

The Bicycle Poker Run is a leisurely, family-friendly bicycle ride on Ocean Isle Beach (OIB), NC.  The ride can be as little as one mile through downtown OIB or as much as seven miles total – it’s your choice. The event is Saturday, October 13th, 2018, on the island of Ocean Isle Beach.

This is your invitation to join 400+ participants and sponsors for a fun event.  The Bicycle Poker Run has become a popular event and we promise even more fun and excitement this year.

This event is the primary fundraiser for Paws-Ability.  Funds from this event will benefit animal welfare programs in Brunswick County.  Your participation will ensure medical services for homeless animals in the care of local rescue groups, offer spay/neuter programs in our community, provide care and protection for pets of domestic violence victims and pet education classes for children in our public schools.


Adults early registration $25 or $30 after October 8th

Children 6 and under are no charge

Family early registration $75 or $100 after October 8th

Family includes two adults and two or more children

Early check-in is on Friday, October 12th from 4-6 PM at the tent near the Museum of Coastal Carolina (21 E. 2nd Street, Ocean Isle Beach, NC  28469) on the island of Ocean Isle Beach.
Event check-in on Saturday, October 13th will be from 1-2 PM and is also at the tent near the Museum of Coastal Carolina.

At check-in, EACH participant will turn in their signed liability release form (unless your form is verified by a Paws-Ability member that it was signed during online registration), receive a wristband and lanyard with the event information. The wristband will serve as admittance to the after-party. The lanyard can be worn around the neck and will hold your Passport for the day.


Participants will receive a lanyard containing a Passport for the ride. This Passport consists of Poker Run rules, a list of all sponsors, map of the event ride with card site locations noted and a scorecard.


Helmets, though not required are encouraged for the riders’ safety. Bring what is needed to be safe and comfortable.  Jackets, sunglasses, and sunscreen etc.  Bottled water will be available at many locations for the riders.
Port-a-johns are located behind the museum and restrooms are available along the route at the gazebo and at card site locations hosted by restaurants.


Bicycle rentals can be reserved in advance with Site Sponsor Surf Unlimited Merchantile for $10 per day.  Call 910.579.1525 to reserve now. Surf Unlimited is located at 17 Causeway Dr. SW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469 in the red building on the left side before the traffic circle on the island.


With a limited number of golf carts available through registration, they are on a first come first served basis. A request must be received on the original registration form. Charges for golf cart rental is $15 per person in addition to registration fees. Due to insurance liability, each golf cart will have an assigned volunteer driver. Golf cart keys will be given only to an assigned driver.  Participants can also bring their own golf carts and pay only their registration fee(s).


Site Sponsors will open to receive participants at 1 PM. No particular sequence or route is required. This is NOT a competitive event, nor is it a race. The paths chosen may range from less than 2 miles up to 7 miles. While participants are encouraged to visit all locations, to compete at least 5 cards are necessary to form a poker hand. Participants should return to the registration tent area no later than 4 PM for the after party.


There will be 11 card draw Site Sponsor locations on the island.  Maps with sites marked will be in the Passport for each rider. Participants must enter each of the Site Sponsor locations to select a card and to register for a prize to be given away at the after party. The cards drawn will be marked by Paws-Ability volunteers on each participant’s Passport.  Remember at least 5 playing cards are needed to form a poker hand. Participants will submit completed Passport cards along with their names at the end of the ride to be eligible for prizes.  Prizes will be awarded for the best poker hand and one for the worst poker hand!  Children will collect cards for a point game using the highest number of points and the lowest number of points.


Participants may collect the required 5 cards by walking or riding less than 2 miles, however, participants are encouraged to visit all Site Sponsor locations.  Remember, these sponsors are businesses that have made a choice to support this event. Each may also offer special prizes, coupons, snacks or beverages. Visiting each card draw Site Sponsor will allow you to add to your chances to win prizes!  Sugar Shack is located at the furthest end of the island and will be offering $50 gift card to winners. So take your time and your breaks and visit them all – you can do it.


Party is located under the tent beside the museum on Ocean Isle Beach.
Entertainment will be provided by Randy Knight’s Parrot Party beginning at 3:30 pm.
Welcome announcements will begin at 4 PM with food and drinks available.
Music, prizes from the Site Sponsors and the silent auction takes place under the tent.  WINNERS MUST BE PRESENT.
Food is provided by Fibber McGees, Papa John’s Pizza and desserts provided by the Seaside Wine & Gourmet. Drinks provided by Food Lion will include water and sodas.


Even more fun! There will be a silent auction available at the after party location that will feature golf packages, restaurant gift certificates, artwork, weekend beach stays and more. The silent auction will open for viewing at 1 PM and will close at 5 PM. Payment for silent auction items can be made by check, credit card or cash.


Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at check-in and at the after party for $5 or 3 for $10. Prizes will include: a new beach cruiser bike offered by Island Hoppers Bicycle Shop (YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN THE BEACH CRUISER BIKE), $25 gift certificates to local restaurants, $200 Visa Card, and a three nights stay at Ocean Isle Inn.
