Celebrate Fall and Support a Good Cause At Literacy Council’s Nov. 4 “Brew & Stew”
What could be a better way to welcome autumn weather than dinner at the Silver Coast winery featuring award-winning Brunswick stew and Mike Monetti & the Band of Gold?
The answer to that question is knowing that your ticket to the Brunswick County Literacy Council’s Brew & Stew Dance Party supports the Council’s mission to improve lives by assisting county residents with reading and writing skills.
So mark your calendar and make your reservation for an evening of good food and musical entertainment on Saturday, Nov. 4, starting at 6 p.m. at Silver Coast Winery, 6680 Barbeque Rd. NW, in Ocean Isle. Tickets are $25, and all profits benefit the Brunswick County Literacy Council.
The buffet dinner by ART Catering will feature the Purple Onion Cafe’s renowned Brunswick stew, along with fresh garden salad, corn bread, assorted homemade pies, and beverages, including a cash bar featuring wine and beer.
North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia each have a Brunswick County, and they all celebrate the flavorful stew. The original Brunswick stew was made primarily with squirrel and a few vegetables, but today’s versions feature mainly chicken, and none is better than this repeat winner in the Beacon’s annual Best of Brunswick contest.
Mike Monetti will be playing oldies, beach music, and good old rock and roll for dancing and listening, and the Council is grateful to Mike for donating his time and talent to this worthy cause.
It is estimated that 41 percent of Brunswick County residents ages 16 and older read at no higher than a fourth-grade level. Literacy Council programs address this significant need by providing one-on-one tutoring to adults seeking assistance with reading and basic life skills.
