The Mayor and Board of Commissioners for the Town of Ocean Isle Beach are pleased to announce that the Town has now received the necessary permits to proceed with our terminal groin project.
The project will consist of the construction of a 750 linear feet terminal groin structure, which includes a 300 linear foot anchorage system.
The 3,214 foot section of shoreline located directly west of the terminal groin (Fillet) will be pre-filled with 264,000 cubic yards of beach compatible material obtained through the use of hydraulic dredge methodologies from the Shallotte Inlet.
The project will be located off of East Third Street on the beachfront and within the Atlantic Ocean On Ocean Isle Beach.
The Town will now proceed with the preparation of final plans and specifications in order to put the project out for bid and select a contractor.
It is anticipated that construction of the groin will begin in November 2017.
The photo above was taken as Mayor Debbie Smith officially executed the final permit rendered by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
This has been a long and tedious process that began in 2002. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to mayor Debbie Smith who has been instrumental in achieving these permits.
