Cooking Medicinally for Summertime
As the heat of the season rises, so too can the internal fires—leading to irritability, inflammation, restlessness, and imbalance. In the wisdom of Ayurveda, diet is not merely sustenance, but the first and most immediate form of medicine.
We invite you to join us, on June 18th, for a summer-centered Ayurvedic cooking class:
This class focuses on classical strategies for reducing the body’s element of fire through food, drawing on the cooling powers of bitter, sweet, and astringent tastes.
We will work with ingredients that are naturally soothing to the system and deeply aligned with the seasonal rhythms, including:
Roses – cooling to the heart and mind
Cardamom & Mint – digestive, refreshing, and aromatic
Cucumber & Coconut – hydrating and pacifying
Bitter Melon – a powerful blood purifier
Through hands-on preparation and discussion, you’ll learn how to use these ingredients not only for flavor, but for functional cooling, clarity of the senses, and inner calm. You’ll learn how to
use food as medicine—tailored to the season and guided by classical Ayurvedic principles. Recipes and preparation methods will be practical, therapeutic, and rooted in tradition.
This class will be led by led by Samantha Parker, Ayurvedic Doctor and owner of Anjali Holistic Healthcare Clinic in Ocean Isle Beach. No prior Ayurvedic knowledge needed. Just a sincere
interest in learning how to cook in alignment with summer season and your body’s natural intelligence.
